A huge thank you goes out to TJ Maxx who have joined HOPE's ambassador anchor program as a $500 donor. TJ Maxx's contribution has helped us to continue to provide financial assistance to residents in our community who are faced with medical emergencies or personal disasters. We are a unique organization in that we are 100 percent volunteer and we raise all of our own funding. We get no federal, state or local dollars. This makes all donations that much more critical. Donations like this enable us to do what we do.
To illustrate how donations have worked in our community we point to two cases. In one case we learned of a terminal cancer patient with cancer throughout his body. The disease left him with several bills and his family was unable to afford a new mattress. He was in a great deal of pain and desperately needed a softer more comfortable mattress. We were able to assist the family with the purchase of a mattress as well as some other monthly bills so that they could have some breathing room financially to make medical payments. In another case we assisted a transplant patient who was awaiting disability and was unable to work. He had a vehicle in need of repair and he didn't have the means to fix the car. Because he was on a transplant list he needed to have means to travel if a heart became available. We assisted this family with the repair bills as well as a mortgage that was in arrears. Because of our group and donations from organizations like TJ Maxx, this family has reliable transportation and a roof over their head.
